The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), founded in 1908, is a professional association of more than 60,000 chemical engineers worldwid. The AIChE Program Development team is responsible for the development and implementation of AIChE s chemical engineering conferences, including the AIChE Spring and Annual Meetings, the Process Development Symposium, the Southwest Process Technology Conference, the Frontiers in Particle Science and Technology Conference and mor. The team works closely with volunteers to develop the technical program of the conference and serves as the overall lead project manager working with cross-functional groups within AICh.
We are seeking a Engineering Associate/Specialist to manage multiple projects for our Program Development tea. Overvie. The successful Engineering Associate/Specialist will be responsible for developing and launching new symposia and conferences, as well as leading and further developing AIChE s large industrial conference, bringing together 2,500 practicing chemical engineers and process safety practitioner. The person will also assist the Senior Director of Conferences & Education and the Manager of Program Development in working with select volunteer committees, and in the strategic planning for AIChE s Program Development departmen.
Responsibilitie. Provide technical leadership and support to volunteers to develop innovative and high quality technical conference programming for new and existing AIChE conferences of all size. Develop and manage budgets for assigned conference. Undertake principal lead responsibility for specific projects as directed by the Manager of Program Developmen.
Projects could include specific conferences, venture development projects, participation and/or leadership in volunteer task forces or management of other programming assignment. This will involve working with engineers, academics, and executives in a wide range of industries globally to coordinate volunteer efforts, speaking opportunities, and conference logistic. Collaborate across cross-functional groups (sales, marketing, meeting logistics, etc.) to develop, organize and market conference. Work with volunteers as required to complete projects and assignments by specified deadline.
Occasionally attend external events to network and make connections for future conference. Approximately 15% travel require. Education/Experienc. BS degree in chemical engineering or related disciplines preferre.
3-5 years of applicable technical project management experience in chemical process industrie. Experience organizing technical events, highly desirabl. Basic knowledge of budgeting and accounting principle. Ability to work reliably and independently with moderate supervision and auditing of the work proces.
Sound general technical knowledge of chemical engineering and related discipline. Superior communication skills (both written and oral). Ability to motivate and direct activities of technical personnel without direct or organizational authorit. Superior project, organizational and time management skills; strong attention to detai. Demonstrated experience working successfully within a highly collaborative and collegial organizatio.
